Dr. Justin Simmons

Dr. Justin Simmons grew up on a small horse and hay farm where he was involved in breeding, training, and showing animals as well as competing in rodeo events. During high school, he worked at an LSU Agriculture Experimental Station, helping with agronomy/entomology/cattle research. Later, he worked on ranches in Montana and Colorado breaking and training colts, before attending Louisiana State University. Throughout his time in undergraduate studies, he was involved in orthopedic research (both large and small animal based), while also working as a carpenter, iron worker, Genex farm hand, and veterinary tech. Following graduation, Dr. Simmons then went on to attend The School of Veterinary Medicine at St. George’s University, finishing his fourth and final clinical year at LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013.

Dr. Simmons began post grad life by studying under his mentor in Kentucky, focusing on equine sports and regenerative medicine before beginning work as a mobile equine sports medicine practitioner covering Louisiana and East Texas. Most recently, he joined the team at Southwest Louisiana Veterinary Clinic, where he now practices mixed animal medicine. His special interests are immunotherapy and regenerative medicine.
